JJ Edit 1.0: Java Editor for Mac OS X
It is nice to finally see that Mac OS is getting some decent Java tools for developers. Macromedia recently announced a version of JRun4 for MacOS X, and most tools that are currently available for Unix will run just fine on Mac OS X (due to the FreeBSD underpinnings). This tool was created by Jake Macmullin(JJ Edit stands for Jake's Java Editor) and is a simple, no-bones-about-it, editor. When you open a new file, you see your code, a compile button and a run button. Of course, this is more than just a text editor. Auto-completion and bracket matching will help to ensure that your syntax is correct.
Ctrl-clicking Java classes will launch the online API documentation. You can create executable jar files and JavaDoc documentation for your classes. You can also compile and run your classes. Definitely for the hand coders. If you are looking for a more robust(and more expensive) IDE, I have heard that IDEA's IntelliJ runs well on the Mac OS X. JJ Edit is currently free, though donations ($5 is the requested amount) are appreciated.
JJ Edit obviously requires Mac OS X to run. Detailed system recommendations not provided.
